{"id":7112,"date":"2012-12-05T01:40:00","date_gmt":"2012-12-05T01:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theteacherstudio.com\/2012\/12\/best-10-minutes-today.html"},"modified":"2018-12-06T17:14:19","modified_gmt":"2018-12-06T17:14:19","slug":"best-10-minutes-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theteacherstudio.com\/best-10-minutes-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Best 10 minutes today&#8230;getting students hooked on reading"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<h3>\nJust 10 minutes?<\/h3>\n<p>Strangely enough, my best ten minutes today were spent working with one of my students who is STILL not making good book choices&#8230;she struggles with comprehension and is constantly abandoning books. &nbsp;Today we had a private conference in the reading area where we dug in deep to the books&#8230;I would pull a book and she would have to decide &#8220;no way&#8221;, &#8220;maybe&#8221;, or &#8220;for sure!&#8221; based on all the strategies we have worked on this year. &nbsp;She is still not independent at this, and I guess I just assumed she was. Never fear! <\/p>\n<p>After only 10 minutes, we created a special book bin ALL for her with 7 &#8220;for sure&#8221; books and 5 more &#8220;maybes&#8221;&#8211;and off she went to give one a try with a huge smile on her face. &nbsp;Reminder for me? &nbsp;We sometimes are teaching lesson after lesson&#8211;but forget we are teaching KIDS&#8230;take the 10 minutes to dig in and see what&#8217;s going on! &nbsp;What were YOUR best 10 minutes today?<\/p>\n<h3>\nGetting students to love books&#8230;<\/h3>\n<div>\nThis is really one of my passions, so I spend a lot of time at the beginning of the year working to build that &#8220;culture&#8221; for reading in my classroom.&nbsp; I revisit these lessons a few times throughout the year to make sure we maximize our independent reading time!&nbsp; If you are interested in seeing more about what I do, the forms I use, and so on&#8230;just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teacherspayteachers.com\/Product\/Readers-Workshop-Forms-Posters-Lessons-and-More-767169\">CLICK HERE <\/a>or the image below.&nbsp; Happy reading!<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.teacherspayteachers.com\/Product\/Readers-Workshop-Forms-Posters-Lessons-and-More-767169\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Getting students hooked on books and learn to love and be successful independent readers is a passion of mine!
