I go first to model, and it\u2019s always a hit! I always remind them that it can something small&#8211;like sleeping in.\u00a0 In my district, some students were on trips to the Bahamas and others might not have even eaten well, so be mindful.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Collaborative Projects<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: STEM activities, shared reading, and new math games are a great way to get students working together again. Talking about resolutions and goals is another fantastic thing to do to get back on track.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Morning Meetings<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: I bring back our morning meeting routine and add a gratitude share\u2014it\u2019s a simple way to foster connection and empathy.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>Try This!<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Create a quick and classic \u201csnowball\u201d game where students write a fun fact about their break on a piece of paper, crumple it, and toss it into the circle. Instead of diving back into all routines at once, I focus on simplifying transitions first.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Streamline Transitions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: For example, I noticed my students struggling to bring in their supplies, so I made it easier by adding a visual cue by the door. Sometimes I give them a time challenge&#8211;like &#8220;You have 46 seconds to put away your book and meet me up front.&#8221;\u00a0 I always use wacky numbers.\u00a0 It&#8217;s just more fun.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Use Visual Schedules<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: I post a daily agenda in my slideshow and go over it each morning\u2014students love knowing what\u2019s coming next.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Introduce a Reset Signal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Some teachers clap a rhythm for students to echo\u2014it\u2019s quick, fun, and effective. Others ring a bell, flip the lights, do a call-back where the teacher says &#8220;peanut butter&#8221; and students say &#8220;jelly&#8221;.\u00a0 You get the picture.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><b>Try This!<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Focus on one tricky procedure at a time to avoid overwhelming yourself and your students. I start with transitions\u2014it always makes the biggest difference.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h4><b>4. Engage Students in Setting Personal and Classroom Goals<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019ll admit it\u2014goal-setting is one of my favorite ways to reset the classroom. There\u2019s something so powerful about giving students ownership of their learning.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Personal Goals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: I ask students to write one academic goal and one personal goal for the semester. Add an Organizational Refresh to Streamline Winter Routines<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s face it\u2014starting the semester with a clutter-free classroom feels amazing.\u00a0 This is also an area I really struggle with, so I like to make this a team effort with my students.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Declutter Desks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: I give students 10 minutes to clean out their desks. We make it fun by playing music and timing them.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Organize Supplies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: We sort classroom supplies together\u2014I let students help label things, find ways to make the math shelves more organized, clean up the classroom library, and so on.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Digital Cleanup<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: On my end, I spend time reorganizing digital resources so everything is easy to find.
