Looking for a fun way to have your students practice addition and subtraction with regrouping–without worksheets? Does your math workshop need a ready-to-use math station that builds math fluency with addition and subtraction concepts? How about a way to differentiate for students at all levels?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

This is for you! This set of \u201cToss and Solve\u201d differentiated task cards takes students from two digit to four digit addition and subtraction\u2014and move from no regrouping to complex regrouping!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Whether you use this as a way to review with a student needing extra practice, a way for partners to practice together, or a center for a math workshop\u2014this is an easy-to-teach tool to provide students with a way to mix practice with a little fun\u2014and some mathematical thinking along the way!<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The directions are simple! (and are included complete with photos and suggestions for use!) Students can either just use the reproducible recording sheets OR can use the task cards to solve the problems. Select the level of problems that will give your students the right amount of challenge. See the cards numbers and levels below. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Students roll dice to make the \u201cbottom\u201d numbers. The top numbers have been designed to make sure students don\u2019t run into too much trouble with numbers that \u201cdon\u2019t work\u201d! For example, the subtraction problems with no regrouping have all numbers 6 or greater to make sure that students do not have to do any trading. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

As the problems get more challenging, students will want to use what they know about numbers to arrange the dice into numbers that \u201cwork\u201d. The number of possible \u201crolls\u201d is endless\u2014making these cards usable over and over\u2026they never need to do the same problem twice! <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

My students love that THEY have some control over their problems, love checking their own work\u2026and I love that ALL my students can do this activity\u2014and I can pick the right level of challenge to build computational fluency without them trying problems that are too challenging. What a great way to work on \u201cprecision\u201d! Each section is clearly labeled with the type of problems included. Everything you need is here\u2014just add dice!<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
